03.16.2015

This last Thursday, the 12th, the first stage of the expansion works of the Port of Rio de Janeiro took place, an event held jointly between Multiterminais and Grupo Libra.

We have the President of the Republic, Dilma Rousseff, Governor Luiz Fernando Pezão, Mayor Eduardo Paes and Minister Edinho Araújo, from the Special Secretariat of Ports, among other authorities who visited our expansion works at the Vehicle terminal MultiCar and at the MultiRio Container Terminal.

These expansion works are part of the Porto do Futuro project, which is the result of an investment of 1.8 billion reais (totaling public and private investments) that provided Porto with the largest continuous pier for handling containers and vehicles in Latin America. Sul, one of the largest collections of ICMS in the State of Rio and ISS in the municipality.

These investments will allow an increase in cargo capacity directly impacting the pharmaceutical, automotive, oil and gas, chemical and steel chains.

The State of Rio is the second largest importer in the country, with R$ 21.7 billion in 2014. Of this total, US$ 12.3 billion arrives in the country through the port, of which US$ 8.1 billion are processed for the Rio de Janeiro economy and US$ 4.2 billion is destined for other States of the Federation.

The port of Rio is an inductive pole of economic activity, with the square meter of the territory of Rio de Janeiro that generates the most tax revenue. In 2014 alone, the collection of ICMS for the nationalization of cargo was R$ 2.2 billion.

Among the ten main ports in Brazil, the Port of Rio has the highest aggregate value of cargo: US$ 2,146 per ton, while the Brazilian average is US$ 1,145 per ton. This characterizes it as a port of quality, of noble loads and not a port of quantity.
